Stuff I can do
Struggling to communicate with your partner?
Communication with your other half is central to your relationship. Relationships tend to hit a bump in the road when there’s poor communication, but we have some tips that can help.
Make some time to have a chat with your partner. It’s important to make sure you’re not distracted by anything. Take it in turns to speak, each speaking for five minutes while the other listens. This gives each of you a chance to speak without being interrupted.
Be frank and honest. Don’t hide how you feel. Being open with your partner can help to lift a weight off your chest and bring you closer.
It’s also a good idea to try relaxing activities together, like yoga, walking or going to the park. Sometimes communication isn’t just applicable to what you say, but also how you act.
Going through a breakup?
If you’ve recently separated from a partner, you may be feeling sad or unhappy about the split. Remember to look after yourself and try and stick to a regular routine. If you are struggling to come to terms with it, confide in a friend, family member or someone you trust. If you are feeling isolated and as though you don’t have anyone to talk to, help is also available from places such as the Samaritans. RelateMK and Relate Befordshire and Luton offer advice and support before, during and after a separation. While CALM and the Samaritans offer an ear if you need to speak to someone urgently.
